Plana d’en Fonoll is the most modern wine of Agricola Sant Josep. It’s the only wine of the winery produced mainly with a non-traditional grape variety in Terra Alta. Each harvest we carefully select the varietal that better shows the specific characteristic of the grape. We also select a wine from another variety in order to add it to the blend and balance the final wine. Lastly, a small percentage of the wine with the same varieties, aged in oak barrel, is mixed to the final blend. We let it settle in deposits, and it is bottles at the end of the season. It is held back in the bottle for a minimum of 3 months before release. In conclusion, it’s a 2nd year wine, that has evolved much more than a young wine (unoaked) displaying qualities that you would expect in a mature wine (Crianza).
Terra Alta is a Spanish Denominación de Origen (DO) (Denominació d’Origen in Catalan) for wines located in the west of the province of Tarragona (Catalonia, Spain) and covers 12 inland municipalities. As the name indicates (Terra Alta = High Land) the area is in the mountains. It is of great natural beauty and features in many of Picasso’s paintings.
The Sauvignon Blanc that goes into Plana Blanc is located in the town of Bot and is only 2.3 hectares big.
